About

As we know, India is the largest democracy in the world, anticipated to become the next economic superpower. A land that has given the world, inspiring visionaries like Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekanand who taught us to challenge our social norms in order to build a progressive society.

We belong to a culture that established the sophisticated Indus valley civilization when the rest of the world was still in the nomadic stage. We are the descendents of Aryabhatta who first invented the numeral system. An Indian physician named Sushruta is known as the father of medical surgery. Navigation was developed on the river Sindh 6,000 years ago. In the 5th century C.E. Bhaskaracharya calculated the time taken by the earth to orbit the sun, hundreds of years before the astronomer Smart. We were the ones who introduced the world to the strategic game of chess.

No matter which field we talk about, Indians have always made a significant contribution. Contemporaries like Vinod Dham and Sabeer Batia, the creators of Pentium chip and Hotmail, surround us. We are Indians and we have a deep-rooted need to make a difference.

But before we pat our selves on the back there are few key facts that we need to know:
  • 37% of Indians still live below the poverty line
  • 12 million people are affected by cancer in India with tobacco being the leading cause
  • 25.96% of Indians are still illiterate

And these are only few of our many concerns. As we feel the increasing threat of these social issues, it has become necessary for us as citizens to voice our opinions at a global level, creating an immediate call for action to rectify these matters. And United intends to support these changes.

United is a ‘Social Awareness Foundation’ that aims to create a platform where corporate, individuals and celebrities can join under a banner of any social cause with a purpose for spreading awareness. To address these issues and the many others that India faces, United has embarked on a two-fold path of action.
  • Create awareness about various social issues.
  • Use the power of the media creatively, to bring about positive change.
